The Air Jordan 4 Retro OG SP x Nigel Sylvester "Purple Rain" is an ultra-exclusive collaboration between Jordan Brand and professional BMX athlete Nigel Sylvester, reinterpreting the legendary AJ4 through his vision of street culture, BMX riding, and premium craftsmanship. Built on the foundation of the "Brick By Brick" collaboration, this Friends & Family edition elevates the silhouette with an even rarer color execution.

Design

Inspired by the energy of New York City nightlife and the color purple as a symbol of ambition, individuality, and artistic freedom, the shoe pairs a luxurious deep purple suede upper with black detailing across the mesh panels, molded TPU support wings, heel tab, and midsole. Nike Air heel branding, co-branded Nigel Sylvester details, and vintage-inspired finishes keep the collaborative identity intact while honoring Nigel's journey from the streets of Queens to global influence in BMX.

History

The original Air Jordan 4 debuted in 1989 from designer Tinker Hatfield, introducing visible Air cushioning, breathable mesh, and the signature wing support system. This "Purple Rain" edition was unveiled in 2025 as an extremely limited Friends & Family release alongside "Brick By Brick." It never reached general retail, earning grail status for its rarity and premium construction.
